AdBlue In Diesel?
Filling AdBlue into your diesel tank can cause excessive damage to your engine and its sensitive components. Try not to start the engine as in some extreme cases it can cause lasting damage. If you have just filled with AdBlue in your diesel tank get some help, call us ->

What Is AdBlue?
AdBlue is an exhaust fluid, not a fuel additive. It’s stored in a separate reservoir and is topped up via a (usually) blue filler cap located either next to your fuel filler, in the boot or under the bonnet.
It’s a trade name registered by the German car manufacturers association, but is the most recognised form of Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF).
What Is It Actually?
AdBlue is a colourless, non-toxic mixture of urea and de-ionised water. It’s not actually blue at all.
Many people think AdBlue is commonly made of pig urine – the fact is it’s not. The urea used in AdBlue is a high purity concentrate man-made additive.
What Does It Do?
Very minute amounts of AdBlue are sprayed into the chamber of exhaust gases. At very high temperatures AdBlue turns to ammonia and carbon dioxide.
Inside the SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) catalyst, harmful nitrogen oxide in the exhaust reacts with the ammonia and is transformed to harmless nitrogen and water.
Run Out Of AdBlue?
If you run out of AdBlue while you’re driving, then the engine will normally go into limp mode (i.e. performance will be reduced). Once you’ve turn off the engine, it is unlikely that you’ll be able to restart.
You will be given notification that your AdBlue is running low. You’ll usually see a warning on the dash at approximately 1500 miles before empty. Top up of AdBlue is recommended as soon as possible.
